Medical Communicator
This program addresses essential components of communication strategy and intelligibility for medical professionals, including international residents who communicate in English.
This program addresses essential components of communication strategy and intelligibility for medical professionals, including international residents who communicate in English.
The program accelerates communication clarity and
patient understanding of medical information in clinical
settings. We use an integrated approach that reinforces
long-term changes and offers immediate application of
new skills to hospital-related communication. Hospitals
who offer the program enjoy higher HCAHPS ratings in the
quality of provider-patient communication.
Our typical program for medical professionals has three components:
- Baseline assessment. Participants perform common medical communication tasks. The assessment is taken on-line before the program begins, and each participant receives a metrics-based score and extensive report.
- A workshop series with interactive lecture-demonstrations. Topics are determined in consultation with your program director after we review the global results of the skills assessment. Typical topics include explaining medical procedures, changing communication styles, and using plain language explanations.
- Coaching further strengthens targeted skills. After the workshop series, or coordinated with the series, participants participate in small group practice sessions, where they demonstrate new skills, receiving guidance from a communications coach and colleagues.
